Burlington Arcade
Introduction
The model was issued in 2005 at the 15th Anniversary. Dating from late Victorian times, the 1923 Art Nouveau front has curvilinear wooden tracery. All the arcade shops have wood fronts, making this the ideal building for the theme. Last two in one of several colourways.
Burlington Bertie hit songs were sung by Vesta Tilley and Ella Shields, male impersonators in the Music Hall era. Ella’s “Burlington Bertie from Bow”, about society swell Bertie and poor East End Bert, was also sung by Julie Andrews in the 1968 film “Star!”.
The south facade on Piccadilly has late Victorian embellishments in a mannerist style with Italian Renaissance and Gothic influences.

Burlington Arcade
Since 1819 this first shopping arcade has always been popular with the rich and famous. It was created by Lord George Cavendish of Burlington House, now the Royal Academy, to stop the ruffians of Regency London throwing oysters shells into his garden! From his 10th Hussars regiment he founded a corps of Beadles, that still keeps order today. BBC TV has featured Percy the poltergeist, dating from 1953! The Arcade was a film location for Patriot Games, Scandal and 101 Dalmations.
