Xmas Farmers’ Market

Introduction
Painter Cara is a fan of her local Farmers’ Market. Regions and seasons when food is at its natural best are valued once again, with minimal packaging or food miles. The quality of small-scale production is also revived. Old crafts are brought back in too, often as giftware. Produce and sign add-ons, laboriously handmade by Cara, were hugely admired at the launch event.

 Fresh produce boxes are always popular.

Organic Production
Chemicals in our food chain really took off in the mid-1900s, but are now considered to be conventional! Organic livestock are fed a healthy diet without the routine antibiotics and growth hormones. The UK Soil Association was the first organic certifier to prohibit nanotech food, from molecular manipulation. GM foods are also non-organic. Since the 1990s organics have grown by 20% a year - currently 2% of food sales. Farmers’ Markets make good outlets for this type of production.

 Christmas puds are piled up as an add-on - on top of the amazing vegetable box.

 Pink-eyed Cara potatoes have a soft, moist, creamy texture. By the veg box, painter Cara added a sack of “her” potatoes to the ceramic!
