Celebrating The Beatles in Liverpool
Many early songs were composed and rehearsed in John and Paul’s childhood homes, now opened by the National Trust with authentic furnishings. The Cavern Quarter has The Cavern Club where they played over 300 gigs, The Cavern Pub, The Beatles Shop, Lucy in the Sky Cafe plus The Hard Day’s Night Hotel & Blakes Restaurant both with iconic artwork from their albums by Sir Peter Blake. The Magical Mystery Tour on a bus covers many sites and The Beatles Story museum is on Albert Dock. International Beatlesweek happens every August.

 A reconstructed Hessy’s window in The Beatles Story at Albert Dock on Liverpool’s waterfront. The red banner is about Hire Purchase, popular with new groups. No HP instrument was allowed to be taken abroad but Hamburg was a regular playing venue... Frank Hessy stood in vain at the main train station on weekends trying to protect his stock!

 In the Cavern Quarter’s Stanley Street in 2006. It was more similar to the model in 2009, with just the arched double doors and plate-glass frontage. Hazle used four floors to stop it being too long and narrow.

 Live music in Mathew Street, open every day.

 Hessy’s in the 1960s. Rushworth’s, the other Beatles’ instrument shop in Liverpool, was too large to model.

 Press launch for The Beatles’ masterpiece album Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band in manager Brian Epstein’s London home on 19th May 1967.

 Eleanor Rigby statue in Stanley Street, 1982.
