Adapted from Gaston Leroux’s 1910 novel, the deformed and masked but talented composer Erik lives under the Paris Opera which he terrorises for money and the reservation of Box 5. His singing lessons from behind a wall make Christine an opera diva. Erik composes an opera and sings with her after the male lead is killed. He captures Christine and her fiancé Raoul, releasing them after she gives Erik a kiss, his only experience of real love. The Phantom then disappears without his mask...
