Introduction
Created in 1929 by Belgian Georges Remi, aka Hergé. Tintin’s “boy scout” character was originally for a Catholic magazine, with Pope Pius XI’s blessings. As a young reporter Tintin sets the world to rights with his trusty terrier Snowy. He is a hero without fear or fault, surrounded by flawed people that Hergé claimed were all part of himself. Tintin and Snowy appear in the main ceramic window with best friend Captain Haddock. Thomson & Thompson, the bumbling detectives who look like twins, are on the first floor.

 Two models from 2003-4 are based on Victorian terraces at Pateley Bridge in the Yorkshire Dales.

Herge’s Work
Pop artists Warhol and Lichtenstein admired his style of strong lines and colours, with characters in a realistic setting. The 23 adventures until Hergé’s death in 1983 tell a 20th century history. He changed later editions to be more politically correct. From the fifth story, The Blue Lotus, Hergé did extensive research. The last books took up to six years and he wanted to kill off Tintin but died himself first.
