Blue & White China
Originating from China in the 800s when cobalt blue was the only colour not to change in the kiln. By the 1600s it was exported, and from the 1700s was made elsewhere in chinoiserie and local styles. Popular in the 1800s, the “Chinese” Willow pattern is a story of star crossed lovers. Much was made in Staffordshire - and copied by China! Many styles, including Willow, are still made today.
An Oxo sign by the door is like this. The drink sold from 1865, with cubes from 1909.
Similar plates are on the ceramic above. From top: Willow, Blue Dragon and The Mayflower at Plymouth designs.
